What does Thai 555 mean?
5 in thai is haa^ (^ is failing tone) so "555" is a pun for "hahaha" which somewhat equates to our english version of "LOL".
Effects of Thai Beer
I think the 3 most common Thai Beer from cheapest to cheap is Chang Beer, Leo Beer and Singha Beer. Usually one box of beer, which contains 12 bottles, cost round 460 to 560 baht (SGD $19 to $24) depending on the brand and shop you buy from. 1 box of beer is probably good for 3 to 4 friends for one night of chit-chat meaning about SGD $6 and your night's beer is settled. How great is that? (:
Better exchange rates for SGD to THB
if you're going to thailand and want to change thai baht last minute don't change at changi airport cuz FER at Suvarnabhumi will be much better. If you leave Suvarnabhumi and change in the city you'll get even slightly better rates. SGD:THB FER now is around 24.5 which is actually a high from what i know. it was probably only around 23.3 about 8 months ago.
Thailand Fun Fairs For Family Outing
if you go to Thailand consider visiting their fun fairs (like Heroes TV series that kind of carnival). it won't be anything like universal studios but you probably have a great time with your friends and family.. and of cuz most importantly it's (: cheap. not bashing but imho SG's gmax is bs for the price we have to pay.
How to call a local phone number in Thailand
To make a local call in Thailand drop the "+66" country code and put a "0" in front. there should be 10 digits.
Thailand Prepaid SIM Card
if you're in thailand for anything more then a weekend holiday it's probably a very good idea to buy a local pre-paid SIM card. once u exit arrival at suvarnabhumi on the same level there's a dtac desk where you can buy a "happy tourist SIM" for 99 baht (SGD4.20), do request to top-up on the spot. 200 baht (SGD8.40) should be more then enough for 5 days allowing you to surf "3G" data access, call back to Singapore and make local calls too. the "3G" access is pretty decent.
Pattaya is a good alternative to Bangkok
Pattaya is a really great place to go, nicer then bangkok imo. It's super easy to get there from Suvarnabhumi. Juz head to basement where there's a desk to buy coach tickets for SGD5.20 (124 Baht) probably the most cost effective way to get there. There's a coach every two hours up until 9pm in case you're on a late flight. The journey is 2.5 hrs so bring a book. You just need to know where to alight, the coach will drop people off at Pattaya Nua (north), followed by Pattaya Klang (center) and finally Pattaya Tai (south).
How to pronounce the name of Bangkok's Airport
Bangkok International Airport is called Suvarnabhumi. Don't attempt and read from the english spelling cuz it's a transliteration and no one will understand what you're saying. it's pronounce as "su-wan-na-poom".
